PDF to Text

Extract text from PDF files directly in your browser. Copy or download as TXT/MD. Scanned PDFs need OCR (not included).

Runs entirely in your browser — no uploads

About this tool

PDF to Text pulls the selectable text layer out of each page using pdf.js, with per-page counts and an optional Markdown export that separates pages with headings.

Honest limitation: scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer — they need OCR, which this tool does not perform. If extraction returns little or nothing, your PDF is probably image-based.

FAQ

Why did my scanned PDF produce no text?
Scans are photographs of pages with no embedded text layer. OCR is required and is not part of this tool.
What is the .md option?
Markdown output adds a "## Page N" heading before each page’s text — handy for notes or docs.
Is my document uploaded?
Never. Text extraction happens locally via pdf.js in your browser.
